Concert a Gift to Audience
"Teresa Walters's realization of the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor is quite literally sovereign…At the last, one was simply blown away."
"The Wartburg Community Symphony Orchestra wrapped up their concert season on Saturday, May 20, at Neumann Auditorium. The season's final subscription concert was a splendid gift to the audience and demonstrated yet again the orchestra's ability to set very high standards. This reviewer finds piano soloist Teresa Walters's realization of the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor quite literally sovereign. Walters exercised the very highest artistic strategizing, tact and restraint in dealing with the final movement's familiar melody ("Full Moon and Empty Arms") so that decades of hooligan cries of "Cheese alert!" or "sticky syrup" were wiped clean. Clearly, Walters showed us that Rachmaninoff has intellect as well as profound feeling, just like her own consummate artistry. The orchestra was ideal. When the full complement was loosed, at the last, one was simply blown away."
