World-Class Pianist Performs in Las Cruces
The Las Cruces Bulletin
February 26, 2010
“International First Lady of Piano Teresa Walters brought her mastery of the keyboard to the Rio Grande Theatre stage on Saturday, February 20 as part of the Dona Ana Arts council’s annual cultural series. Walters graced the stage in her performance of music by multiple composers.
To listeners, it was easy to understand why she is considered to be “one of the world’s most significant pianists” according to Austrian National Television. Walters is hailed for her commitment to music as the ultimate universal language. She is noted for her “Keynote Comments”, a format in which she verbally communicated with the audience with insightful and entertaining remarks about the music before she played each piece. This proved to be very popular with the audience.
A familiar face on the world’s greatest concert stages, her recital at Lincoln Center earned a standing ovation from a full house and high praise from the New York Times who cited the “sweep” and “power” of her “intricate passagework.” New York Concert Review reports, “Her transcendental performance magically transforms the keyboard. She has a huge, rolling sound and makes music like an eagle surveying the landscape.”
