Virginia Beach Symphony with Teresa Walters at Pavilion Theater "The Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra is very proud to feature pianist Teresa Walters in her Hampton Roads debut, performing the lush Second Piano Concerto of Rachmaninoff. Directed by Music Director and Conductor David Kunkel, the symphony presents "The Romantic Tradition" at 3 pm today in the Pavilion Theater. The program is sponsored in part by grants from the City of Virginia Beach through the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, the Virginia Beach Foundation, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Teresa Walters's concerts this season are part of an intense international schedule that includes performances throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. This season will witness her return to Russia and debuts in Manila, Hong Kong, Mainland China, and the Caribbean, where she will perform in the amphitheater of the Island Center for the Performing Arts. The New York Times writes: "There was much to admire: The crashing octave runs were all right on the mark. Not a note was smudged in the pages of intricate passagework, and her conception had all the requisite sweep, power, and warm sonority." The Budapest Sun wrote: "Teresa Walters takes the keyboard into orbit." New York Concert Review reported: "She has a huge, rolling sound, and makes music like an eagle surveying the landscape." |
