Pianist Joins Symphony in Painting Russian Canvas
"The Southwest Symphony Orchestra's 41st Season begins this Saturday at 8 pm at a performance in Palos Heights Ozinga Auditorium. The first concert's theme, Russian Canvas, begins with renowned pianist Teresa Walters performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. Teresa Walters has performed as recitalist and orchestral soloist on six continents and in most of the 50 states, including such venues as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris, Moscow's Great Hall, the Australian International Conservatorium and Jerusalem's Concert Hall. Her recent all-Liszt recital at Lincoln Center in New York earned a standing ovation from a capacity crowd. In addition to maintaining an extensive international touring schedule, she is recording a series of releases featuring the sacred piano works of Liszt. The first two albums have been nominated for the Grand Prix du Disque of the Hungarian Liszt Society. The Symphony, under the direction of Maestro David Crane, will also perform Tchaikovsky's March Slav and Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky, with projected images of Hartman's paintings, the inspiration for Mussorgsky's music."
