“World-renowned concert pianist Teresa Walters entertains as part of Wheeling Jesuit University’s 2008-09 performing arts season at 8 PM, October 21. The concert will be held at Oglebay Institute’s Stifel Fine Arts Center.
The public is welcome to enjoy this opportunity to hear Walters (a Steinway Artist) perform on the beautiful and historic Steinway Concert Grand custom built of rare crosscut oak for the venue, one of Oglebay Institute’s unique treasures.
A familiar face on the world’s greatest concert stages, Teresa Walters has performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris, and the Great Hall of Moscow. She is noted for her commitment to music as the ultimate universal language, and for her vision of music as ministry.
A recent performance at New York’s Lincoln Center was sold out and garnered her a standing ovation from an adoring public. The press wrote: “Teresa Walters’s performance was quite literally sovereign. At the last, one was simply blown away.”
Austrian National Television has described her as one of the world’s most significant pianists, announcing, “She creates magic with the music.”
Her repertoire for the evening features pieces by various European composers from Germany, Italy, France, Hungary and Russia. Before playing each work, she will speak briefly about the music, giving insight into each piece.
Walters is equally at home in the world’s major concert halls and in campus and community settings. In recent years, she has performed as recitalist and orchestral soloist on six continents and in most of the 50 United States. Attesting to her international fame, she is also the first American pianist invited by Hungary to perform three prestigious European recitals honoring Franz Liszt.
Her Liszt recordings have received nominations for the Grand Prix du Disque of the Hungarian Liszt Society. Copies of her award-winning recordings will be on sale in the lobby before and after the concert and Walters will be available to sign CDs after her performance.”
