International First Lady of Piano Coming to USF on March 27

The University of  St. Francis (USF) continues it yearlong Centennial celebration as it welcomes “The International First Lady of Piano” Teresa Walters for a special concert event at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 27 in Sexton Auditorium Moser Performing Arts Center. 

World-acclaimed virtuoso Teresa Walters presents an evening of music by some of the most highly regarded composers of piano repertoire.  Walters has performed as recitalist and orchestral soloist on six continents and in most of the 50 States at venues including Carnegie hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris, Moscow’s Great Hall, Australia’s International Conservatorium and Jerusalem’s Concert Hall.  Her Lincoln Center recital in New York earned a standing ovation from a capacity crowd. 

Walters will present her acclaimed program, “Celebrating Our World,” a concert of music for solo piano, which honors the world’s shared heritage and common humanity.  Currently celebrating 100 years of higher education rooted in Franciscan values, the University of St. Francis has over 50,000 USF alumni across the globe.

On Sunday, March 22, 2020, we are excited to bring to Portsmouth the world-renowned pianist, Teresa Walters, to present her 2020 program Celebrating Our World, which  honors the world’s shared heritage and common humanity.

Described by Austrian National Television and The New York Times as “one of the world’s most significant pianists,” and “The International First Lady of Piano,” Teresa Walters’s mesmerizing performances on today’s international stages have earned worldwide praise.  She has performed as recitalist and orchestral soloist on six continents and in most of the 50 United States.  Her prestigious invitations to perform in honor of the recent Liszt Bicentennial included Copenhagen’s Hungarian Embassy and Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall. 

A native of the American Midwest, Walters earned a doctorate from Peabody Conservatory and has lived most of her adult life in the New York City area.  Known for her commitment to music as the ultimate universal language and for her vision of music as ministry, she has made multiple award-winning recordings.

Among the world’s finest pianists, Teresa Walters is a consummate performer who engages her audiences each and every moment.  This is her first appearance in Lakewood.
